Materials
All mats are made from EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) closed cell high density foam, with embossed anti-slip surfaces, except Crash Mats which are made from Pre-polymer PU 40mm foam sponge.
Our EVA mats are BS rated - see SATRA testing page. All mats are shipped with edging strips on every order based on the required area.
Colour Variances In some cases Colour shades may vary slightly from tile to tile due to dye cooling process in EVA based mats.
Installation
Where can the mats be laid? Mats can be laid on to most clean internal surfaces, but safe fall-heights will vary accordingly. Mats can be laid outside, but not usually as permanent installations, unless areas are well covered. The interlocking design means mats can be laid down and removed quickly, however to stick down permanently or semi-permanently, you caa use either double sided flooring tape or general purpose tile adhesive for vinyl, cork, pvc etc.
Do surfaces need to be prepared? Clean, dirt and dust free surfaces are ideal, but virtually no other preparation is needed to lay the mats. Lay directly on to concrete sports halls, hardwood parquet floors, wooden floorboards, existing carpet, short grass, patios, decking etc.
Can the mats be cut? Yes! The EVA mats can be easily cut and shaped for a custom fit around awkward areas. In this case you should order a little more than your room size and trim along two walls in the room. The mats are easily cut using a Stanley knife or a utility knife and a straight edge. When cutting the mats leave at least a 1/4" gap (6-9 mm) between the mat and the wall for any expansion.
Can the mats be placed over carpet? All floors & carpeting under the mats is ok. However, if used for martial arts or combat training, the carpeting acts like a layer of air and the mats may move around, even large areas. It is best to stick the mats down with our removable tape.
What about under floor heating? Although we have laid the mats on heated floors, we recommend finding alternative flooring for permanent domestic installations on heated floors. To prevent warped surfaces and condensation damage, please ensure to leave room for expansion/contraction of floor mats and do not seal air-tight.
Do you offer a fitting service? Only for large areas, such as events and trade shows, please enquire.
Wear & Tear
Will the mats support heavy equipment? The EVA mats will support exercise equipment, multi gyms, free weights and weights benches, but surface depression will be evident after long periods. If you require mats to support equipment, we recommend the Ultra Mat, which are solid rubber and extremely hardwearing.
Will the mats hold up to foot traffic? Yes! The mats will take a real pounding and hold up easily normal wear with shoes or without shoes. However, stilettos or very pointed heels will indent or mark the mats permanently!
How long do they last? Expected useful life for the mats is approx 10 to 12 years. However, if applied in high foot-traffic areas or used frequently for sports etc., this may be reduced to 7 to 10 years.
Maintenance
Are the mats waterproof? Yes, they will not absorb water, not one drop, even over time.
Are the mats resistant to stains? The mats are resistant to stains if the material is wiped up right away, because no moisture will penetrate into the mats, stains will not go 'into' the material.
How are the mats cleaned? Most types can be vacuumed, wiped (no detergents) or even jet sprayed to clean. For best results, use bicarbonate of soda with warm water. However, this is not recommended for patterned finishes, such as oak.
Safety Features
Are the mats safe? All mats satisfy CE regulations, fire and children's toxicity tests. EVA mats are non-absorbant, impervious to moisture and resistant most household common chemicals including bleach and other cleaners. Joins at the interlock are usually tight enough to stop surface liquid penetration to the sub floor if liquid is wiped up straight way. Have been tested for Compliance with European Standard on Safety of Toys EN71 Part 1:1998 Mechanical and Physical Properties EN 71 Part 2:1993. Flammability of Toys and EN 71 Part 3: Migration of Certain Elements.
